Education @ Florida's Gulfarium
Since its earliest days in the 1950's, education has always been a part of Gulfarium's mission. In 1994, founder Brandy Siebenaler expanded the educational reach of the aquarium by authorizing the creation of the Education Department. Our first splash into education was summer camp. Our camp has slowly grown and gotten better over the years, and so has the Education Department. Current programs include camps, marine science classes, public/home school science programs, lectures, seminars, professional development, and special events.

Summer Camp
Since 1994 Gulfarium Camps have been introducing kids to the wonders of our watery world. Florida's Gulfarium provides two camp experiences:
Aquatic Camp (for kids entering grades 3-6)
Liquid Lab (for kids entering grades 7-10).

Seminars
Dive into an exciting aquatic world through Gulfarium's Seminar and Lecture series. Seminars are conducted by Gulfarium's own Amateur Scientist and Director of Education, Mr. Eric Deadwyler. Currently available seminars include:
Focus on Dolphins, and
Focus on Red Tide

Professional Development
Teacher Quest is a 7-week paid summer program designed to bring teaching talent into science, math and technology-based industries. During those weeks, you will gain industry knowledge, which you can use to energize and enrich the classroom, infuse your students with an out-of-this-world academic experience!

Now, through The Endeavour Academy, Teacher Quest has an approved list of employers with open positions such as Boeing, Brevard Zoo, Computer Sciences Raytheon, Dynamac Corp, Florida Aquarium, Florida Space Research Institute, Florida State University, GWIZ, Harris Corp, Lockheed Space Operations, Mote Marine Laboratories, NASA-KSC, Rocketdyne, Science Center of Pinellas County, Inc., South Florida Museum, Bishop Planetarium, Tampa Electric Company, United Space Alliance, and Wuesthoff Hospital.

Public/Home School Programs:

Blended School
With a view to providing the best education possible for their children, home-school parents are partnering with the local school system in a pioneering project that utilizes local experts, skilled craftsman and artists, business people, and other interested individuals. It is a cooperative effort, engaging the best in our community in the process of teaching our children and pushing them on to excellence. The Blended School project was initiated by the Okaloosa County School District in the summer of 2001. We began marine science classes as part of the Blended School Project in September, 2001. Current eligible enrollment are home-schooled students in grades 2 through 8. Instruction is provided by Okaloosa Blended School teachers (Florida-certified) and must meet rigorous standards (State of Florida’s Sunshine State Standards).

Coastal Wetlands
Florida's Gulfarium is proud of its award winning Coastal Wetlands program that was developed in 1997. It is a cooperation between Florida's Gulfarium and a local elementary school. We constantly strive to be involved with local public education and to inspire the minds of the children in our community.
