Marine Animal Trainer 1

Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park is looking for a motivated candidate to be hired on as a Marine Mammal Trainer 1. This mid-level training position works directly with Bottlenose Dolphins, California Sea Lions, Harbor Seals, African Penguins, ASCO's, and a variety of tropical birds. Gulfarium provides to the guests engaging animal presentations and fun animal encounters. Candidate must be comfortable in a fast paced environment within a large team. Gulfarium is located in the Florida Panhandle overlooking the beautiful Gulf of Mexico.  
Essential Responsibilities
• Accurate and complete record keeping procedures
• Food preparation procedures
• Daily maintenance and development of exhibits
• Complete area related husbandry (cleaning) procedures
• Develop skills in the collection of approved medical samples
• Assist with veterinary procedures
• Administer vitamins and prescribed medications assigned by management
• Participates regularly in all animal and guest program interactions
• Participates regularly in all public narrations and shows
• Effective communication between all staff, interns, and volunteers
• Demonstrate ability to maintain and troubleshoot animal behavior regularly
• Develop ability to train new husbandry, show, and interaction behaviors under supervision
• The ability to demonstrate operant conditioning skills 
• Other duties as assigned
Requested Requirements
• Ability to lift 50 pounds
• Ability to work varied shifts/weekends/holidays
• Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience
• Minimum 1 year experience working with marine mammals
• Open Water SCUBA certification
• Excellent teamwork skills
• Excellent public speaking skills
• Good swimming ability
